“Saci Kitchen Garden” – Rocinha’s urban kitchen garden.

Thanks to the cooperation with Alice O’Connor, “Il Sorriso dei miei Bimbi” introduced at the beginning of 2014 a new activity: an urban organic kitchen garden on the terrace of the organization’s nursery school “Saci Sabe Tudo”.

This project’s aim is to introduce Rocinha’s children to agriculture, in compliance with the methodology of the Australian famous cook and writer Stephanie Alexander. The creation of an organic kitchen garden stimulates pupils to take care of nature and its wonders.

Through teamwork based on direct contact with plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables, children (and their families) learn the importance of healthy food, improving their diet and discovering the beauty of sharing.
